AR for furniture: shoppers see the sofa in their own room before they buy

The dimensions in the table are correct, but few people can picture 2.8 meters of corner sofa in their own living room. AR solves that in thirty seconds – on a phone, with no app.

The dimensions in the table are correct, but few people can picture how much 2.8 meters of corner sofa really is in their own living room. AR (augmented reality) solves that in the simplest way: the shopper points their phone at the floor and the sofa appears in the room – at real size and in the fabric they chose.

How AR works for the shopper

  1. On the product page, the shopper picks the fabric, legs and other options in the 3D view.
  2. On a phone they start the AR view; on a computer they scan a QR code with their phone.
  3. The camera opens and the model sits on the floor at real size. They can move it, turn it and walk around it.

No app is needed – AR works straight from the browser on iPhone and Android phones.

What shoppers check in thirty seconds

  • Whether the piece fits against the wall and leaves enough room to walk past.
  • Whether the chaise should be on the left or the right.
  • How the fabric color works with the floor, walls and curtains.
  • Whether the back is too high under a window or a shelf.
  • How it looks next to the table, armchair and rug they already own.

Why AR reduces returns

“It does not fit” and “it looks different than I thought” are the two most common reasons large furniture comes back. AR resolves both before the order even exists.

  • 66%of shoppers who used AR while shopping say they are less likely to return the productSnap, Publicis Media and Alter Agents, 2022 – 4,028 respondents
  • 11×more likely to buy for users who viewed furniture in their own roomHouzz, 2017

The detail that matters: AR in the fabric the shopper chose

Many AR solutions show the model in one default color. That helps check the size, but not the choice of fabric. In Furni360 the AR model opens in exactly the combination the shopper picked in the 3D view – fabric, legs and other parts – so they see in their room exactly what they are ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Do shoppers need an app for AR?

No. The AR view opens straight from the phone's browser. On a computer a QR code appears for the shopper to scan with their phone.

iPhones and Android phones that support AR – that is most recent models.

Is the size in AR accurate?

Yes, the model is shown at real size. We still recommend that shoppers measure the doors, hallway and elevator the furniture has to pass through.
